There are several lighted Little Italy and Star signs that hang above our streets. In 2021, volunteers and generous financial donations enabled us to fix the signs.
During 2021, volunteers donated more than 150 hours and many people and businesses contributed the needed funds to rewire and fix the signs.
The lights had not been worked on since 2016, sockets were rusted, wires cracked and many of the bulbs had burned out since they were last worked on during 2016.
It was a massive undertaking to take down and fix the lights. District 1 City Councilmember Zeke Cohen connected us with the Department of Transportation to take the signs down and put them back up once they were fixed.
Once taken down, volunteers worked on the lights in the basement of Chiapparelli's Restaurant. Over a three week period, more than twenty Little Italy neighbors added thousands of sockets to wires and then attached the new wires to the frames.
Next we moved the lights to the Pandola Center where they were laid out and tested.
A huge thank you to Arthur G. for his planning, electrical knowledge, and skills. Arthur is always willing and able to help with Little Italy projects and he is appreciated.
